Rating: - A gritty gut punch of a novel.
Hmmm, reviewing this one is a mixed bag. Not usually in the genre that I usually read, I was intrigued by the details. Gristly crimes, nasty left over evidence, and slimy tissue to clean up...admit it, you are intrigued.
The protagonist spends the majority of his time just being angry and irritated with most everyone, while doing the clean-up for violent afterthoughts of seedy criminals.
The plot is quite a bit less involved that one would think, watery at best. What ... Read More

Web Goodhue is a slacker who hasn't worked in a year. Formerly a productive member of society, Web suffered a tragedy that has him retreating from life, sleeping 14 hours a day, and being rude to everyone. Concerned friends and a broken cell phone send Web back to work--helping a friend clean trauma sites. Oddly enough, Web finds the work of putting things back to rights satisfying, and he meets a girl when he helps clean up after her father's suicide. Things get messy, though, when she implores ... Rating: - twisting terrific tale of betrayal
Web Goodhue burned out as an inner city elementary school teacher until he finally quit. Although still suffering from what the shrinks call post-traumatic stress disorder, the former Los Angeles teacher obtains work as a member of a crime scene cleanup team. He finds cleaning away the remains of dead people easier on his brain than teaching.
He and his crew clean up a particular nasty job in Malibu where the suicide splattered blood and guts are everywhere. Soon afterward, the dead man's daughter ... Read More
Rating: - Good Dialogue, Poor Pacing and Plot
I can't say that I am completely disappointed in Charlie Huston's latest book, The Mystic Arts of Erasing All Signs of Death, but I can't say I enjoyed it, either.
Per typical Huston books, the characters are interesting and the dialogue is witty, sharp, and gritty. However, in this book, it was almost over the top and at times I was discouraged. The premise of the book is somewhat interesting, with cleaning up deaths, and opens the door for tremendous potential knowing the author is famous for noir ... Read More
