Being an avatar of all things ridiculously and needlessly complicated, I picked this book up at The Strand Bookstore. I knew by staring at the first page that I had, indeed, encountered a literary monstrosity so completely indulgent that I would have to force myself to read through it word-for-word just to give myself the pleasure in the knowledge that I could mentally endure something so pretentious.
