Rating: - Good mix of trip-hop and downtempo rock
Carrie Melbourne is a British based chapman stick player performing with such artists as Babylon Zoo and Mike Oldfield band. Seeing that she was one of the few female artists out there who uses the chapman stick extensively I was intrigued to pick up this CD. On Indian Ocean, Carrie proves she not only can play some mean chops in addition to demonstrating her ability as a vocalist as well. The songs on Indian Ocean are firmly rooted in the dark triphop of Massive Attack and Portishead. That shouldn't ... Read More
Rating: - not good, not bad, just typical
it's too bad tracks 2 and 4 start with the same overdone little riff, really, it's terrible, but, tracks 1 and 3 are pretty cool, mellow, have that cool beat that compiment a dark room with clove cigarettes and b&b. (track 7, dark-sounding, kinda cool) overall the cd is allright, which I guess is what you can expect from any cd nowadays, a few really good tracks, but a pile of mediocre nonsence, one of which the voice of mr. melbourne made me cringe (tr 8). melbourne is on the same type plane as pj ... Rating: - A unique beautiful CD
I tracked down and purchased this cd at first merely as an stick player thinking of adding to his collection of styles and music created on the chapman stick. I found this cd to be much more to me however than a chapman stick exersize that I would listen to note the stylings and technique and put away or resell.
Indian Ocean is a tremendously agreeable, artistic cd crossing over the catagories of jazz, fusion, progressive and the Melbourne's have produced in my opinion a cd which will stand up ... Read More
Rating: - I wanted to like this CD
Sometimes when you get a CD it takes a few listens to enjoy it. I gave this CD more chances than most out of respect of a player of the Chapman Stick. But it never reached the marks that the other reviewers gave it.
Rating: - Buy this record now!
Besides being an absolutely sympathetic outfit, this record deserves massive support. Anyone who likes either Ambient/Triphop, world music, progressive rock or New Age (or those who detest tese labes and just like really good music) should go out of there way to buy this. Wonderfull Chapman Stick & Keyboards over great rhythms in great songs/composisitions.
Since obtaining the record I have been playing at home in the car and even at work. Best still is on the ski slopes! This music defies ... Read More
