From the supplier: The second annual Route to the Top survey co-sponsored by Chief Executive magazine and Spencer Stuart reveals significant changes in the CEO career path despite the continued popularity of traditional CEO attributes such as strategic thinking and financial acumen. The results paint a traditional profile of the average chief executive: 58 years old with 23 years of experience with the company and six years as CEO. However, the findings also indicate that the role of the chief executive has changed along with the evolution of the corporate environment. New executive characteristics being required include international exposure, experience in various industries, high-profile roles and the ability to produce topline growth.
