From one of America’s most compelling novelists comes the mesmerizing story of a lawyer who must defend the woman he loves against a charge of conspiring to assassinate the prime minister of Israel David Wolfe’s life is approaching an exhilarating peak: he’s a successful San Francisco lawyer, he’s about to get married, and he’s being primed for a run for Congress. But when the phone rings and he hears the voice of Hana Arif—the Palestinian woman with whom he had a secret affair in law school—he begins a completely unexpected journey. The next day, the prime minister of Israel is assassinated by a suicide bomber while visiting San Francisco; soon, Hana herself is accused of being the mastermind behind the murder. Now David faces an agonizing choice: Will he, a Jew, represent Hana—who may well be guilty—or will he turn away the one woman he can never forget? The most challenging case of David’s career requires that he delve deep into the lives of Hana Arif and her militant Palestinian husband, both of whom have always lived in exile. Ultimately, David’s quest takes him to Israel and the West Bank, where, in a series of harrowing encounters, he learns that appearances are not at all what they seem. Culminating in a tense and startling trial with international ramifications, Exile is that rare novel that both entertains and enlightens. At once an intricate tale of betrayal and deception, a moving love story, and a fascinating journey into the lethal politics of the Middle East, this is Richard North Patterson at his most brilliant and engrossing.

Rating: - Very Good Book...Will Make You Think
I really did enjoy this book. It make me think about what has been and is going on in the Palestine/Israel conflict. Richard North Patterson does an excellent job of creating two lead characters that have a forbidden past plus many minor characters that shock you. Mr. Patterson uses the two leads to uncover and explore the Middle Eastern conflict that has been going on for thousands of years. There are numerous twists and turns. Some that you expect and others that come out of the blue but make ... Read More
Rating: - Exile
Richard North Patterson is a magnificent storyteller with a knowledge base grounded in the reality of how the world operates. All of his books are great reads, Exile is possibly his best.
Rating: - Fascinating and entertaining
As an avid fan of Patterson's novels, I think this may be his best effort. An action-packed page-turner with well-developed, likable characters, it also provides an interesting background on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that leads (or at least led me to) further study and interest. Not only could I not put this book down, but I almost immediately began studying the conflict afterward, and feel quite educated as a result. Patterson does an excellent job of exploring the conflict from a neutral ... Read More
Rating: - Patterson Scores Again
The Exile lures you into its story slowly but surely and then explodes you forward into a sun storm of character and drama. The best novels are those which keep you turning page after page while thinking, "... what would I do?...". You find yourself shutting the book and just thinking for awhile and then not being able to walk away, opening it back up and plunging in again. This is that type of novel. Here a decent man with an old secret love finds himself sinking toward giving up all he holds dear to ... Read More
Rating: - Disappointed
I was disappointed in this purchase for two reasons: It took a long time to arrive and the book was not in good condition as it was described. The cover was bent and it was clearly very used, not in good condition as advertised.
