Amazon.com'Digimon' must be Japanese for 'rip-off.' This cartoon series now seen on the Fox Kids' Network has far too many similarities to Pokémon to be classified as anything but a dupe. Our gang of elementary-school adventurers is blasted into a mysterious jungle world where their only tool against an attack of mighty monsters is their personal Digimon--digital monsters (compared to Pokémon's 'pocket monsters,' like you could tell the difference). Where Pokémon has a wisp of a moral, this story is strict adventure. Rip-off aside, will kids want to watch? Absolutely. The music, pace, and haircuts are far hipper than Pokémon's and the creatures can easily be assimilated into the kids' encyclopedic knowledge of such things. The animation, from the same makers as Dragonball Z, is nifty to boot. The first volume's three stories ('And So It Begins,' 'The Birth of Greymon,' 'Garurumon') set up the series and--if the creators can evade a lawsuit--it shows no signs of stopping. The numerous action sequences make this series best for ages 5 and up. --Doug Thomas

I'll admit it, when i first heard of Digimon i said the cliche thing: Pokemon rip off. But i was proved soooo wrong. I don't remember how i first got into watching the show, but once i did, it literally changed my life.
This show is nothing like Pokemon--at all. The characters are so in depth and the plots interesting and unique, its hard to get over the amazingness of the show. This show is life changing and simply incredible.
The basic plot of the show is 7 young kids who somehow find ... Read More
Rating: - Digimon doesn't get the credit it deserves...
The fact that the amazon reviewer called Digimon a "rip-off" of Pokemon may be discouraging to someone hoping to buy this, but it's definately not true. I think Digimon has a much deeper plot than Pokemon, which is simply to catch all the Pokemon and get gym badges. In Digimon the kids, called Digidestined have to team up with their digimon and try to find a way back to their own world. There are more villians that are actually evil, compared to Team Rocket in Pokemon who are defeated nearly every episode. ... Read More

I, too, haven't baught this video but rather saw the episodes when they aired on TV years ago. After reading the Editorial Review (by Doug Thomas) I was appalled. To say Digimon is a ripoff of Pokémon is completely ridiculous. I would compare it to saying General Hospital is a "ripoff" of E.R. simply because they both feature doctors, patients, and drama. One privy to Japanese culture would know hat "-mon" was a small trend in the world of Anime.
Overall, I find Digimon to be more compelling and ... Read More

First off: I haven't acctually bought this video, but I've seen all the episodes included in it. Digimon is an awesome show, which, contary to pupolar belief, is NOT a rip-off of Pokemon. If you think the two shows look very similar, accuse Pokemon of being a rip-off of Digimon. Not the other way around. Digimon acctually came out before Pokemon but Pokemon was dubbed into english before Digimon. Anyways, the show is great. I love all the characters, and the show gets even better in season 2 when the 8th ... Read More
