  Books C++ Primer (4th Edition)

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent book
Since I'm the 58th person to a write a five-star review for this book, this comment seems fatuous; whatever.

This book is simply fantastic. Although I had prior programming experience before learning from this book, I strongly believe that anyone can learn C++ even if you've never programed before. It gives clear explanations and uses excellent examples.

The book begins with a simple introduction to programming, and the first seven chapters go over the basic constructs of programming, it isn't until the 8th chapter does it delve in C++ material. OOP is more complicated than most people take for granted, so if you can understand it well, you will be on your way to writing excellent code.

If you can, learn C++ before Java--ideally learn C before C++, each predecessor has less concepts to understand but harder to write efficient code in.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - 4th edition is very very good
C++ Primer (4th Edition)

I agree with Paul M. Dubuc and just for your all information I am a mechanical engineer and have just come to a need of good c++ programming at work. I have looked at few other beginner books out there but this one is better than all. It's really sad that most of the review pertain to 3rd edition which really sucked and even the LOOK INSIDE shows you the older edition. AMAZON please do something????

Anyways the book is great, very organized and structured. Has plenty of tips, practice code and question etc. Also, basics are covered in detail and with quality content. Glossary in chapter end as well as end of the books make it a real good quick reference once you are done reading it. It did get a bit overwhelming for me if you are almost at the end but thats because they are trying to summarize very lengthy topic into short chapters.

Overall I would say worth every penny you spend on it !!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Much better than Deitel
This book is quite different than Deitel's "How to Program" series. Deitel's books are all the same: they presume you are stupid. They tipically start to write about control structures at page 80-90 and end at 160. Lippman starts at page 11 and ends at page 20. So there is more pages dedicated to details and things that worths.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - 4th Edition is Excellent!
This is the one of the great books about C++. Well organized, comprehensive and well written. To me, the name of it ("C++ Primer") is just wrong. This book is not for beginners. However, it is the best for the C++ programmers whose level are intermediate.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Awesome book !
This book is great!! I had learnt C++ way back in 2000. I have been hearing about the drastic changes in C++ and hence bought this book. It really taught me a lot. This coupled with Scott Meyers make a killer C++ combination.
