Rating: - One of the Best Ever
This is not only the best ASP.Net book for experienced developers learning ASP.Net, but it is simply one of the best computer books I have read.
If you know how to program then you will breeze through this book while learning all of the basics and advanced basics of ASP.Net.
Rating: - A really neat book
I've been playing with ASP.NET for a while and read a ton of great books, so I'm not easily impressed here. However, the author did a bang up job. I agree with the other reviewer that his discussions on using Web.Config and the asp account are hardly ever mentioned but very important.
Most importantly, this book is very readable. That's not the case with many ASP.NET books. His command of ASP.NET is great, his examples are all really cool. The guy knows his stuff and definitely knows how to communicate it to you.
I liked it so much that I will definitely buy the next book with his name on it, he's a great writer!
Rating: - Best asp.net book I've read
It's been rare (for me at least) to find a book this good that I actually want to keep reading. Of the 4 asp.net books on my shelf this is the only one I've read all the way through. It'll suck ya in and give ya the goods. No fluff, good examples.
I wouldn't recommend for beginners though. Understand the Quickstarts, code for awhile, then read this.
Rating: - Essential but not advanced
Having read previous reviews of this book, it sounded like it cut to the chase, no blurb or waffle. I was dissapointed to find that whilst it does go into a level of detail and is certainly not aimed at beginners, it lacks one thing. It does not go into advanced topics. You can certainly follow the a-b-c but when you want to take further, the d-e-f it doesn't give any pointers. Good for its size but by no means brilliant - I'm beginning to wish I'd bought asp.net unleashed.
Rating: - Delivers what the title promises.
I teach, and helped co-author, a course in ASP.NET development using C#, and have been exposed to a great deal of material on ASP.NET. I have found this book to be the deepest, most focused and most informative text on the topics it covers, and it is a pleasure to read as well.
It does require a founding in programming and web development that would limit its usefulness for a beginner, but it is the only book I would unreservedly recommend for ASP.NET.
