Books Microsoft ADO.NET (Core Reference) (PRO-Developer)

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Might be a good book, but I couldn't tell
I've read the reviews and the praises for this book and I want to believe them, but I could just never get into it. It's thick at about 700 pages and I couldn't get the flow of the book. I know that some will dismiss my evaluation as ametuer and that's OK. I hope that it works for you. I found Shawn Wildermuth's "Pragmatic ADO.NET" much more palletable. I am keeping this book around for reference though. From the look of the other reviews I have a feeling that all of the information is there and, now that I've had a primer from another book, it will be more digestable.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Es geçmeyin.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great introduction to ADO.NET
This book provides a great introduction to ADO.NET. It covers the various aspects of connected and connectionless data access very well. I do feel like I need another book for more advanced topics (caching of data in scalable enterprise environments, for example), but this book is a great start.

One complaint, that has more to do with the writing style, is that the author tends to introduce a way of doing something, only to show a more correct way later in the book. If you need to use the book as a reference, you have to be aware that you might flip to a "bad" way of doing something that is later improved.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - index is hosed!
Nice book overall. Good code snippets and such. Unfortunately, the index is not 'aligned' correctly! This made it very irritating to find any thing quick (normally I found it off ~3 pages). Very frustrating. As a developer I do not have time to hunt and scour. Thank goodness for yellow stickies!

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Good book need more code samples on CD
This book is pretty good. The one big shortfall for em was that it only includes samples from Chapter 11 to the end of the book. It would be nice to have some from the other chapters. The author suggests installing the e-version and then copying and pasting, but this is a big hassle when you could just open the solution and go from there!
