Rating:  - Certainly not the best beginning ASP.Net book
I bought this book because of the reviews it had on Amazon. I learned from this experience that you can't use Amazon reviews as your sole criteria for purchasing a book (that's why you should stop reading now). The author glosses over many of the principles needed to learn the subject. Instead, he briefly discusses code examples (and these explanations many times leave you with more questions than answers) and does not highlight with enough clarity the most fundamental aspects of ASP.net. One of my biggest problems though was the authors total lack of explanation for the end of chapter exercises. If you have any questions (and you will) about how and why the author has coded one of the exercise solutions, you won't find the answer anywhere in this book. Furthermore, many times I found that the exercise problems asked you to perform operations and methods the author didn't discuss in the chapter or any previous chapter for that matter. These problems will really leave you scratching your head. It doesn't deserve one star, but definitely doesn't merit 4.5 (it's current average). I just purchased ASP.Net Unleashed and this is by far a much better book. It would be my recommendation.
Rating:  - Perfect book for ASP developers
I read this book from cover to cover, and would definitely recommend it to anyone who already has a background in ASP. I found a few mistakes in the code samples, but what book is without them? I consider debugging them a useful exercise. The chapters are very well laid out and follow succinctly, exactly what I expect from a single authored SAMS book.
If you are an experience ASP programmer who wants to develop a good grounding in ASP.NET, this is the book for you.

This is a good book. I like it. It is very easy to follow and gain to knowledge about the ASP.NET but I wish the authors prepare another chapter of using MS Visual Studio.NET (instead of NotePad)to built the Web page.

This book is awesome and Chris Payne's writing is simple and concise.
While not always refering to "classic" ASP, he points out what the differences are. New techniques are also very well explained, making this thick book a reading pleasure.
If you want to learn ASP.NET quickly, this is the book for you. The seven first days are way enough to get you started and code some basic web applictions.
Very recommended. 5 stars, hands down.
