Rating: - Must read for ASP developers...
...looking to move on to ASP.NET this book is an easy read, and if you are already familiar with ASP this book will show you what you need to know in the first 5 chapters. This book assumes you will be using VB.NET as your language of choice.
Rating: - The "bible" at my workplace
First of all, I'm not done reading this book yet. However, I have read enough of it to give it a very positive review. Just today I was handed an assignment involving XML and XSL. I have some experience with XML, but not with Microsoft's XML tools. I had not yet read the relevent section of the book, but in just a few minutes I was able to glean the key information I needed to plan and execute my assigment. My attempts to learn it on my own under battlefield conditions were very disappointing. This book helped me tremendously. In just the first chapter I had one of those "so *that's* how this happens" moments.
I find most "how-to" books to be lacking in either substance or presentation. This book is strong in both areas.
One caveat- It's heavily VB oriented. I have a fair amount of VB experience so that's not a problem. If you plan to use C# (as I do), you'll need a good C# book to go along with it.
Rating: - Happy with purchase
Of all the Dev. learning books that I've bought over the years there are about 3 that I look back on and think to myself.... "I'm glad I bought that book, it made me grow".
This will become one of those books.
Although it came out shortly after the release of Beta 2, it is written in an unhurried manner. Examples are concise and, more importantly, accurate. Also, as with my other favourites, this book encourages you to use your brain at key moments.
If you plan on becoming an ASP.NET aficionado then I would commend this book to you.
Rating: - Good Book
This is a good book if you want to learn how to build web sites using asp.net and VB.Net. At the end of each Week the author shows how to build an application using the skills learned in that week. In day 22 the author shows how to build a complete application. I only gave it four stars because there no website that contains errors and source code discussed in book. I hope the author will setup a website. If a website already exists please let me know. This book is not for you if you want to learn C#.
Rating: - Good Book
A very good book if one want to learn ASP.NET using VB. At the end of each week the author uses a mini project. At the end of the book the author takes you through the whole process on how to build a .NET Application. I have given it four stars only due to the fact that: - Did not Cover C# - Did not provide source code for download - No Website for errors If there is a website, please let me know. Otherwise let us create one and publish the code using C# as well. I hope the author will have time to write the same book but using C#.
