Microsoft has been getting a lot of press lately. From the announcement of their decision to Open Source some of the Dynamic Language Runtime (the tool that powers the IronPython thing in Silverlight) to the announcement that the ADO.NET Entity Framework will not ship as part of Orcas (don't even get me started on my opinion of that announcement!) - MS has been getting a lot of write-ups and a lot of blog treatment - some good, some bad. Last week Microsoft failed to win ISO approval for the Office Open XML (OOXML) standard in the 2nd round of the ISO standardization process. While the Wall Street Journal published a critical article about this, this is by no means the end of the road, nor is it even a major setback - the ISO process commonly requires multiple rounds, and the 3rd round (expected for early 2008) will very likely see Office Open XML becoming an ISO standard. Eracent has been given a mission to create the XML schema definition for ISO/IEC 19770-2 standard draft. The ISO/IEC 19770-2 standard will define the asset tags for software Configuration items. The asset tags are files in xml format. The definition of the xml tags and values are the core of the standard, but it also needs the formal xml schema definition to avoid any confusion and to be able to validate the tags. More info
